Kindergarten Ofsted Report
Ofsted inspectors praised the quality of teaching and learning delivered to the school’s youngest pupils, following an inspection of the Kindergarten in 2008.
The effectiveness of the Kindergarten was rated as ‘good’ by inspectors, who noted that pupils received a high level of individual attention from teaching staff. (This is a direct result of Kindergarten class sizes, where pupil numbers are limited to just 20.)
Inspectors also found that ‘the learning environment is good and children engage in well-planned themes and topics. Staff have a good understanding of the Foundation Stage and how children learn.’
Inspectors were equally pleased to find that ‘Children benefit from a well-planned curriculum [during which] no topics or themes are repeated during a child’s presence...Children are greeted warmly and benefit from high adult ratios and receive individual support to meet most of their needs.’
The school was also commended for the sound relationships between children and staff, and the ways in which pupils’ confidence and independence were supported.
The report went on to applaud the school’s ‘positive behaviour procedure’, the children’s ‘impeccable manners’, and the ‘sense of community’ that pervaded the school.
Kindergarten teacher Miss Sam Pope said: “We are delighted with the Ofsted report which picked up on the many strengths of Kindergarten.
“We believe that the Kindergarten class at Manor House gives pupils a well-balanced, productive and happy start to their school lives – and one where they will get all the individual care and attention they deserve.”
