Roald Dahl Day celebrated

14 Sep 2016

Over the past few days pupils and staff have been celebrating the life and works of Roald Dahl. Beginning with a visit from the BFG (Mr. FMP looking ogresome) on Monday,  Tuesday's school started with a literary carousel where pupils chose which tale they would like to participate in then went to different rooms to hear the stories acted, and over acted, by staff in role. This was followed up today by a senior assembly on reading and will be continued on Friday with a whole school Roald Dahl assembly.

The afternoon began in juniors with a full rendition of 'When I Grow Up' from Matilda (the musical) followed by a live reenactment of George making his 'marvellous medicine' outside in the beautiful grounds of our Pre-Prep. Children and staff added various unsavoury ingredients but had to wait to discover what happened when George's grandma (a thinly disguised Mrs. L) tasted the wonderful mixture.  Quite startling evidence of this can currently be seen in our foyer.

Dreamjars were then created using glitter and water & thoughts and feelings. These are now on display in the school entrance and look fantastic. Please pop in to take a look.

The day culminated in a wonderfully creative cake sale where cakes were baked by our pupils and eaten afterwards. With some superb creations judging was hard, and indeed took many tastings to be certain, but the overall winner was decided to be a triple effort from the Collier family. Well done and thank you to everyone for taking part.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the edible characters, the drama and the creativity inspired by many Briton's' favourite Anglo-Norwegian. Thank you to the literacy team of teachers and pupils and to all of you for your continued support. Our theme continues throughout this week with a whole school focus on important books. What a fabulous start to the term.

Normal lessons and school business are continuing this week! S3 have been taking their CAT testing today and S1 will be doing similar tomorrow and Friday. These are unprepared for tests done by many schools nationally to help us set challenging targets for your children.

“If a person has ugly thoughts, it begins to show on the face. And when that person has ugly thoughts every day, every week, every year, the face gets uglier and uglier until you can hardly bear to look at it.

A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts it will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.”
