Sensational Speakers Reach Regional Final
News article submitted on 12th February 2009, 14:38

Three sensational speakers from Manor House School have reached the regional final of a national speaking competition.

Phoebe Mills, 12, and Elys Brooks and Charlotte Griffiths, both 11, wowed the judges in the regional semi-final of the Rotary Youth Speaks competition in January.

They are now preparing to face even tougher competition in the regional final at Kettering in February.

Teacher Penny Brown, who has been coaching the girls, said: "To succeed at this level, you must have incredible courage, awesome determination and a genuine belief and faith in your team mates. I am so proud to say that Charlotte, Phoebe and Elys have all these qualities.

"Their commitment and skill as public speakers makes them a credit to themselves and the school."

The pupils chose 'New Speak, Not Always a Language to be Proud of' as the topic for their presentation, which focussed on the unkindness of labelling and name-calling.

Charlotte took on the role of speaker, while Phoebe was the chairman and Elys was the proposer of the vote of thanks.
