Patrice Attias, 13, and Holly Gadsby,10, impressed judges in the Young Artist 2009 competition run by the Rotary Club of Ashby-de-la-Zouch.

The contest was open to pupils from local primary and secondary schools. Entrants were asked to produce artwork on the theme of the weather.

Holly won Best Entry in the Primary section, while Patrice picked up Best Entry in the Middle School category. He also clinched second place overall, out of more than 100 entrants.

Both pupils painted stormy skyscapes.

Teacher Janet Russell said: “Art and Design plays a very important part in the curriculum at Manor House School.

”We are always keen to enter competitions of this kind and welcome the opportunity for our pupils to see their work displayed to, and appreciated by, a wider audience.

“The standards in this competition were very high so I am particularly pleased that Holly and Patrice were among the prize-winners.”
