News article submitted on 26th August 2009, 15:07
Pupils will join parents, teachers and friends at a memorial service to celebrate the life of popular Ashby headmaster Ian Clews on Friday 11 September.
Hundreds of people from around the country are expected to attend the service in memory of Mr Clews, who was Headmaster at Manor House School for seven years until June 2009.
He died of cancer in July.
Patricia Clews, his wife of 26 years, said: “The memorial service was Ian’s idea; he planned it all. He wanted an event that was suitable for everyone to go along to, including the pupils, if they wished to.”
Mr Clews chose the hymns and readings for the memorial service which will be held at St Helen’s Church.
Colleague Ann Scrine paid tribute to Mr Clews, saying: “Ian lived for Manor House School. Right up until his death, he was thinking about the school and ways in which it could move forward from strength to strength.
“He will be sorely missed at Manor House School but we share his vision and will continue his excellent work.”
Friends and family from as far afield as Lancashire, Essex, London and North Yorkshire are due to travel to the service.
The service will begin at 2pm. It will be followed by refreshments at Manor House School. Anyone who knew Mr Clews is welcome to attend.
