Coastlines and Coursework for Young Geographers
News article submitted on 8th October 2009, 10:37
A weekend exploring the coastlines and settlements of North Yorkshire allowed GCSE geographers to develop vital coursework skills.
The Year 11 pupils investigated Malton’s urban settlements and compiled case studies along the nearby Holderness Coastline, looking at the causes and consequences of erosion.
Headteacher Anne Scrine, who accompanied the pupils, said: “It was a fantastic experience. The pupils returned feeling very positive, having learnt a lot and enjoyed themselves.
“We concentrated on coursework skills such as collecting data, which we will be able to apply to other settlements in future. At Flamborough Head, they also witnessed evidence of the many processes of weathering and erosion, which will be very useful in their forthcoming exams.”
After a full day of field work, pupils returned to the field studies centre to record and analyse their findings.
This was the first time that pupils from Manor House School had stayed at the Cranedale Centre, a residential field studies centre.
