Fancy Dress is Tree-mendous Fundraiser
News article submitted on 15th October 2009, 15:17

A tree-mendous fancy dress fundraiser at Manor House School will help to plant up to 40 new trees in the National Forest.

The Ashby-based school has pledged to plant a tree in the National Forest for every one of its pupils, staff members and governors.

To help buy the trees, pupils will pay £1 each to dress up for the day as a ‘spooky inhabitant’ from the mythical Manor House School wood.

Linda Wordsworth, Deputy Headteacher at Manor House School, said: “Manor House School prides itself on playing an important part in the community, so we are really excited about helping the National Forest to grow! We’re hoping to raise £400 – enough for 40 trees.”

Pupils will also be taking part in a series of other tree-related events, such as word puzzles and a competition to decorate their own National Forest logo.

The events will coincide with the school’s Readathon when pupils are sponsored to read as many books as they can. All proceeds will go towards the National Forest project.

Pupils will wear their fancy dress costumes on Friday 30 October.

The school’s youngest pupils will get the chance to wear their spooky outfits twice, as they will parade them first at a Witches and Wizards party.
