Memorial for Headmaster Helps Local Causes
News article submitted on 29th October 2009, 14:27

A memorial service for popular headmaster Ian Clews helped to raise £700 for three of his favourite causes.

The service to celebrate the life of Mr Clews, who was headmaster at Manor House School in Ashby for seven years, was held in September.

Scores of friends, family members, colleagues and pupils packed St Helen’s Church to remember Mr Clews in a humorous but moving service.

A collection during the memorial raised £700 to be divided between Manor House School, St Helen’s Church, and Concordia, the Ashby-based singing group of which Mr Clews was a member.

His widow, Patricia Clews, said: “I am extremely grateful to everyone who came to the service to remember Ian and to everyone who gave so generously to the collection.

“It was Ian’s wish that the collection should be divided between the three causes that were closest to his heart.”

Mrs Clews said that she would continue to be an active supporter of Manor House School, where Mr Clews worked until his retirement in June 2009. He died the following month.
