Gunpowder History Visit Goes with a Bang
News article submitted on 19th November 2009, 14:56
Remember, remember, the 4th of November – when pupils spent a day learning about the origins of the Gunpowder Plot.
As part of their History topic on ‘Famous Events’, pupils from J1 visited Donington le Heath Manor House, which was once home to one of the Plot’s conspirators.
The pupils learnt about the events of the Gunpowder Plot from men and women in period costume, who pretended to be eyewitnesses of the fateful events of 404 years ago.
The children also got the chance to hear real gunpowder being used.
Teacher Angela Taylor said: “The visit was a great way to investigate an historical viewpoint in an accessible way, in an authentic period setting. For the children, it was a wonderful opportunity to be reminded of how much fun History can be!”
The children were given a tour of the Manor House and took part in some Stuart period activities.
