Charity Band Night Hits the Right Note
News article submitted on 14th January 2010, 13:54

One of the bands in action.A charity band night organised by three pupils from Manor House School has helped to boost funds for the school’s music department.

Keen musician Glenn Charles, from S3, came up with the idea for the fundraiser, after deciding that he wanted to help the school to buy new musical equipment such as drums and guitar amps.

He enlisted the help of classmates Oliver Griffiths on keyboards, Catherine Gadsby on vocals, and guitarist Tristan Griffiths from S5 to put together a band for the night.

They performed a selection of rock classics by artists such as Yes, Pink Floyd and Van Halen, as well as more recent tracks by the Kings of Leon and The Killers.

The evening also included performances by two other local bands to an appreciative audience in the school hall. They were She Can’t Fly, featuring Manor House School pupil Barney Such, and Dust.

Ticket sales from the band night raised £122 for school funds.

Headteacher Ann Scrine said: “The boys did brilliantly to organise the evening and sell tickets. It was a fantastic evening, and very well-supported. The money raised will help to buy useful equipment for the music department.”
