Instruments Needed for Music Lessons - with Bells on!
News article submitted on 21st January 2010, 15:38

Young musicians at Manor House School will be getting music lessons with bells on – literally.

The school is launching an after-school club to teach pupils the art of handbell ringing.

Now the school is ap-peal-ing for help from anyone who can donate unwanted handbells, or share their handbell ringing expertise with pupils.

Music teacher Sam Pope said: “Music is an important part of the curriculum at Manor House School and we are always looking at ways to introduce the children to new genres and ways of making music.

“When one of the teachers said she had always wanted to try handbell ringing, we decided to start an after-school club. Now all we need are a few more handbells.”

The club is aimed at the school’s older pupils, aged 11 to 14.

It is hoped that, by Christmas, they will be good enough to follow the Manor House School tradition of playing for members of the local community.

Miss Pope added: “We always take our Christmas performances out into the community so it will be brilliant if we can add some handbell ringing to the programme!”

Anyone who would like to share their handbell ringing experience with Manor House School pupils, or donate unwanted handbells, can contact the school on 01530 412932.
