Pupils Wear Hats for Haiti
News article submitted on 4th February 2010, 13:40

Pupils wore hats for Haiti.Compassionate pupils used their heads to raise money for the victims of the Haiti earthquake – by coming to school in their favourite hats.

Pupils made a donation to the Haiti relief fund for the privilege of wearing their hats to school for one day in January.

Eye-catching headgear included straw hats, pirate hats and even a crash helmet.

A ‘Crisps for Crisis’ sale was also held in school, when pupils were able to buy crisps at breaktime. All proceeds from the crisp sale went to the Haiti fund.

Deputy headteacher Linda Wordsworth said: “We all saw the terrible pictures from Haiti on the television and in the newspapers, and we wanted to do something to help.

“By wearing 'hats for Haiti', children were raising money for, and awareness of, the dreadful problems that people are facing in the aftermath of the earthquake.”

In all, the school raised £214 from the two events.
