Pupils Dish Up Hot Dogs for Haiti
News article submitted on 11th February 2010, 11:36

Servers in actionPupils at Manor House School will dish up ‘Hot Dogs for Haiti’ when they cook the school dinners for a day.

Twelve young cooks will prepare and serve dinner to the whole school – and charge diners £2 each, in aid of the Haiti disaster fund.

Menu options will also include burgers, sandwiches, and jelly and ice cream. All proceeds will go to help the victims of the recent earthquake.

Harkiran Kang, 15, who helped to come up with the idea, said: “We wanted to cook a school meal but we couldn’t do anything too complicated, so we came up with the idea of hot dogs and burgers.

“We have heard so much about what has happened in Haiti that we wanted to do something to help.”

This is the first time that pupils have taken over the school kitchens. School dinner ladies will be on hand to help with the cooking.

Manor House School has already raised more than £200 for the Haiti appeal by holding a ‘Hats for Haiti’ day and a ‘Crisps for Crisis’ sale.

Pupils will cook school dinner on Wednesday 24 February.
