Tree-mendous Fundraisers Get Planting

Tree-mendous fundraisers at Manor House School have celebrated their success by planting trees in the National Forest.
Earlier this year, the school vowed to raise enough money to plant a tree in the National Forest for every pupil.
Since then, they have collected more than £1,200 – and converted the money into trees.
In March, children from the school were joined by Dinah Nichols, Chair of the National Forest Company, and former Environment Minister Michael Meacher, for a tree-planting ceremony at Chestnut Woodlands in Moira.
Teacher Sam Pope said: “The response to our tree appeal has been amazing - people have been so generous. The challenge has also encouraged the pupils to be more aware of their local environment and to realise that there is more to trees than just conkers!”
Money for the tree-planting was raised at a series of events, including a Treeathon, when pupils paid to dress up as spooky woodland inhabitants.
The school also held a non-uniform day and sold its own ‘tree towels’ – tea towels featuring pictures of trees drawn by the pupils.
