Pupils Go Back in Time
News article submitted on 8th July 2010, 10:55
A visit to Sudbury Hall's Museum of Childhood catapulted pupils back in time to a world of sculleries and chimney sweeps.
Pupils from Pre-Prep and M3 spent a day at the museum to learn what life was like for children in Victorian times.
They were able to sample life as a chimney sweep by climbing up a chimney, and got the chance to crawl through a simulated mine shaft.
They also had a go at washing clothes the old fashioned way, using a wash board and mangle.
The visit tied in with pupils' recent History studies.
Pupil Joshua Sturdy said: "It was pitch black up the chimney. I would not like to be a chimney sweep in real life - but I would like to stay at Sudbury Hall and play in the chimney there!"
