News:

M2 School trip – On Tuesday, 29th June, M2 went to visit
Charnwood Museum to take part in a World War II workshop,
cracking codes and finally, visiting the Carillon War
Memorial in Queens Park. The children’s behaviour was
exemplary all day and they were a credit to the school and
their families. The volunteers at the War Memorial
stopped me as I left to comment that the children were the
most well behaved children they had had in this year! Well
done, M2, I am very proud of you all.
(Mrs. Millington-Pipe).

PSHE – As part of our ongoing PSHE lessons the Seniors S1 –
S4 are being provided with a course in sex education
being delivered by Ashby Youth for Christ. All children
will attend these workshops next week unless you request
in writing for the children to be withdrawn. (Mrs. F.

More Sport

Croquet – S1, S2, S3 girls took part in two croquet
sessions at Manor House School run by Mr. March from Ashby
Croquet Club.

A Beginners course (children and adults) starts Tuesday
June 8th at 7.00 p.m. and runs for 3 weeks. This is held
at their ground at Moira Miners Welfare. Or just go along
Tuesday/Thursday from 6.00 p.m., Sundays from 3.00 p.m.
Please wear flat soles/trainers.

The sessions were great fun and some of the girls showed
real talent. This is a great non-expensive whole family
sport. Give it a try!

Swimming – M form boys last swimming session: Wednesday
June 9th.
M form girls next swimming session:
Wednesday June 16th.

Athletics – Team members for Grosvenor Athletics Match
need to return letters on the first day back after half-

House Swimming Gala. Tuesday 13th July at Ashby School.

lost kit that is unnamed.

House T-Shirts – All pupils require a House T-Shirt for
Sports Day, Swimming Gala, House matches, Fun event, etc.

to Mrs. Whitaker.

Feeling hot, hot, hot! Children are out playing in the
sun. Please make sure your child has a plain cap- red,
black or blue with no logo and sun cream as necessary. It
would be easier for all if you used a sun cream that stays
on the entire day. All children need water to stay
hydrated throughout the day. Thank you.

New fees for the academic year 2010-11 – A letter from Mr.
Bayliss, Chairman of the Governors, has been given to your
child on Tuesday. Please let the office know if you have
not received one.
IT’S COMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, it’s that time of year again- GARDEN FETE TIME!
We’d like to start reminding you that we will be
collecting toys, bric-a-brac and books for our stalls.
Start wracking your brains for new and inventive games and
sideshows and get out those cake recipes so that we can
have another fabulous cake stall. Use our sign-up sheet
to volunteer your time.
Thank you!

Uniform- Please check uniforms for necessary repairs. We
have 6 weeks of school left and standards need to be
maintained. There are school sanctions in place for
untidy uniforms.

Summer Art Workshops - Present J2 to present S4 - July
26th to July 30th
Message from Mrs. Zoe Potter, artist and former art
teacher at Manor House School:

“On 28th and 29th July we are going to be generating and
creating some sculpture ideas as part of Art Workshop
week. The sculptures will be inspired by the 2012 Olympic
games and the sculpture that artist Anish Kapoor has
created to mark this occasion.

Creating small scale ideas is not a problem but for the
larger scale pieces I am having to be quite resourceful
and inventive. This is a request for help from any parents
or relatives reading the school bulletin.

Do you own or work for a company that would be able to
supply us (Mrs Potter and her artists) with materials that
are safe to work with - they may be flexible, rigid,
wiggly?! I am looking for items such as colourful
plastics, hose pipe, tubes, cable ties or fastenings that
we can use for connecting items.
Plastic is great as we can use it outside but I am open to
using cardboard items. All of these things can be off cuts
and waste and not in perfect condition as long as they are
not sharp. You may have something in your garage or shed!
Don't be shy to suggest ideas.

If you think that you have something that could be of use
to us, please could you e-mail me at
zoelpotter@yahoo.co.uk and I will arrange to collect it
from you. Please don't bring it in to school as I will
store it until the workshops commence.

Many thanks in advance for your time and consideration.”

Booking forms are available from the school office. There
are only a few places available, so please book as soon as
possible.

Multi-Sport- Please remember to apply for the summer
sports club. The children who have attended our other
holiday clubs have really enjoyed themselves.

GCSE Geography Field Trip to Cranedale Field Centre, North
Yorkshire – This trip will take place from Wednesday 29th
September to Friday 1st October. Please return the reply
slip and the first instalment as soon as possible.

S2 Hagg Farm- Please now send back the reply slips along
with £20 deposit ASAP.

Drama Club-We’re practising our pantomime like mad and
it’s going to be great! Please remember there is a full
rehearsal on Sunday, 13th June 2-5pm. The performance is
on Tuesday, 15th June at 7.30. Remember your child needs
to bring £10 in an envelope addressed to Mrs. Hunt for the
hire of his/her costume.

Foneclub- We will be signing up for this worthwhile
fundraiser. For each phone recycled, we will receive
£2.50. Watch this space for more information and start
looking for those old phones!

on the entire day. All children need water to stay
hydrated throughout the day. Thank you.

We
have 7 weeks of school left and standards need to be

Sickness bug at MHS- There have been a number of cases of

sale in the School Office- £4 for adults. Children
accompanied by an adult are free.

School Council- The school council have now ordered a
projector for the school hall and are busy thinking of new
ideas for the school. They are thinking of new break-time
equipment for the M forms and the Seniors. They are also
planning to buy some computers for the libraries. They
plan to be very involved in the Summer Fete. If you have
any ideas, please tell your form representatives. The
