Garden Fete – The Fete was a great success and we raised
£2,500. A big thank you to all parents who supported this
event by giving generously and helping out on the day.
Prize-Giving – You are warmly invited to attend the
ceremony which will take place in St. Helen’s Church on
Wednesday 9th July at 2.00 p.m. Car park space is limited
and we advise you to come early and park carefully.
Please try and make arrangements to collect your child
promptly at the end of the Prize-Giving ceremony as there
will be no after-school care.
Clubs - There will be no clubs on the last week of term
(except Tennis Club)
Second-hand uniform sale – Mrs. Williams, one of our
parents, would like to organise the sale of second-hand
uniform from her salon, TipTop Hair Salon in Staunton
Harold. Uniform for sale should be taken to Mrs.
Williams’ shop, not brought into school as we have no
space for it.
Lost Property – If your child has lost an item of uniform,
please look in the rack in the entrance hall as it will be
emptied before the start of the new academic year.

This Wednesday is NON-UNIFORM DAY! The cost for wearing
mufty is a bottle of alcohol. No, we’re not going to use
it for a staff party, we will be using the bottles to
stock our bottle tombola. This is a great money spinner
for our fete, so come on kids, Wear your mufti with
pride! Please remember, there are to be no bare tums and
shoes should be sensible enough to be worn at break time
and for going up and down stairs safely!
Manor House M and S Forms Have Talent! The M and S Forms
will be performing in a concert on Tuesday, 24th June at
7pm. We will need all children to attend. They need to
wear school uniform- jumpers or cardigans are not needed.
The children will meet in the Orangery at 6.45 sharp!
Children not attending will need a note from their
parents. Please come and support us- it promises to be an
exciting and varied programme.

activities and also discussing departure times. All group
leaders will be attending. The same meeting will also be

make Monday’s meeting.)
Tomatoes! M3 have grown tomato plants for the Fete.
However, they’ve grown too well and need planting
now! If any pupil (or parent) would like one to grow
themselves, please see the science department. 50p

Art Exhibition- This year, Manor House School will be
holding its second GCSE Art Exhibition on Thursday, 26th
June, 7-9pm.
Last year’s exhibition was a resounding success. Held on
a warm summer evening, parents, governors and invited
guests enjoyed viewing art work of a very high standard
whilst listening to piano music provided by pupils and ex-
pupils of the school. Pupils received excellent
compliments about their work and enjoyed displaying their
work in a professional manner.
This year, S5 pupils will exhibit their work alongside
seven pupils from S4 who have produced their first GCSE
project. The evening promises to show new ideas created
using a diverse range of media. This evening will be by
invitation only. Parents of the exhibitors will receive
their official invitation with an accompanying letter
shortly. The other pupils in the school will have an
opportunity to visit the exhibition on Friday, 27th June
and on Saturday, 28th the exhibition will be open to all.

Oscar Night –Remember to buy your tickets soon! We need
to plan our delicious menu! Don’t be disappointed.
Swimming Gala- Tuesday, 10th June 9-12am. All
participating pupils will need their swimming kit- (girls
one piece costumes only) and towels. Lack of space
precludes us from having spectators. No goggles should be
worn, unless for a medical or vision problem. Please
bring a note.

Oscar Night – When are you going to buy your tickets?
It’s planned and ready to go!
Fireworks, tasty food and good music- a great time!
Tickets are £5. Purchase
your ticket early from Mrs. Turland. Don’t be
disappointed!
Skipathon- The Pre-Prep children had an exhausting morning
skipping their little hearts out for the British Heart
Foundation. The children were all sponsored by family and
friends to raise money for this worthy cause.

French student - A 15 year old French boy is looking for a
host family to look after him for a period of time in July
2008. If you are able to assist please contact the office.
German Student – An 18 year old German girl would like to
work as an au pair for an Ashby based family for 2-3 weeks

Baby it’s hot! The sun has got his hat on - have you got
yours? Mrs. Bill at Jilly Beans has hats for sale for sun
protection, this includes a baseball cap for all M&S Form
children. No other cap will be accepted. Sun cream may
be brought in marked clearly with your child’s name,
however, it would be better if you purchased sun cream
that can be applied once a day as part of the getting
ready for school routine.
Tesco- Start searching! Tesco has finished issuing
these. Where have you hidden those sneaky little piles?
Sainsbury’s- SSSSSSSSSSSSStill collecting!
Breakfast- We’ve just ordered lots of books for our
libraries. Keep eating cereal!

House t-shirts- All pupils need a House t-shirt. These t-

named envelope to Mrs. Whitaker stating your child’s
House. The T-shirts will be distributed before Sports Day.
More sport
David Hunt Challenge Cup
On Friday the U11 Football Team played in the above
tournament. As last season’s winners, they had very high
hopes of bringing the magnificent trophy back to MHS.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be. Although they were by far
the better team and had most of the play, the goals didn’t
come. Very well played, boys.

Club forms - Every child in school should return a club
form whether they attend clubs or not.
Baby it’s hot! The sun has got his hat on- have you got
yours? Mrs. Bill at Jilly Beans has hats for sale for sun
protection, this includes a baseball cap for all M&S Form
children. No other cap will be accepted. Sun cream may
be brought in marked clearly with your child’s name,
however, it would be better if you purchased sun cream
that can be applied once a day as part of the getting
ready for school routine.
Water- All humans need to be properly hydrated to think
and we think a lot here! Send your child with a water
bottle.
Race Night- TOO few takers! Unfortunately, we have had to
cancel this fun night due to lack of support.
Tesco- Start searching! Tesco has finished issuing
these. Where have you hidden those sneaky little piles?
Sainsbury’s- SSSSSSSSSSSSStill collecting!
Breakfast- We’ve just ordered lots of books for our
libraries. Keep eating cereal!
Craft items- Miss Russell has some lovely ideas for some
art projects. She is currently collecting wooden cotton
reel, crochet hooks, broken or unwanted jewellery, beads,
sequins, etc..
House t-shirts- All pupils need a House t-shirt. These t-
shirts are worn throughout the school for House Matches-
netball, rounders, cricket, football, cross-country and
also for Sports Day. Pupils will be given
t-shirts to ‘grow into’. Please could you send £4 in a
named envelope to Mrs. Whitaker stating your child’s House.
Advance notice- Friday, 23rd June- S5 will be sitting
their German listening exam in the language rooms. There
will be no access into school through the top gate (near
the boarding house at Ashby Grammar School) between 8.15
and 9.30. Thank you
More Sport
Rounders- The girls made a valiant effort, but faced an
extremely talented team. It is never fun losing, but they
had a good tea and extremely noisy bus ride too. Great
try, girls!
Rugby- Congratulations to Megan Oxtoby in M4! She has
been voted Ashby Rugby Club’s Player of the Year. Megan
was presented with a silver trophy and has been
interviewed by the press.
Athletics- The new Turbo javelins have arrived and are
proving a great success. Sports Club- next week only- on
Tuesday, 20th May, 3.30-4.30pm. Training for long-jump,
shot, javelin and relay. Tug of war to start soon!
Swimming- M form girls, KG and J1 are having a wonderful
time during their swimming lessons. These sessions have
proved so popular that we have booked the pool again for
next year.

Oscar Night – Get out that posh frock, tie those ties and
dust off those dancing shoes. The
red carpet will be rolled out at 7pm for a 7.30 start.
Dinner, dancing, awards and fireworks are

“Goldilocks in the City” Goldilocks, 3 Bears, Fairy Bag
Lady, rats and some celebrities- were all there! We had a
great night. All of the children and adults who took part
really enjoyed themselves. Thank you for all of your
support. Apparently we’re off on a space adventure next
year! Everyone is invited along for the ride!

More Sport
The M form girls started their swimming lessons on
Wednesday. We arrived in a downpour and were soaked
before we started.
Please label all uniform before next Wednesday- one third
of M3/M4 uniform was unlabelled- causing much confusion
and much wasted time.
The M form boys retreated indoors for their cricket lesson
and covered batting and bowling.
Grosvenor Athletics Match
We have just received our invitation to the above event on
June 23rd. This year there is a different format with the
exciting inclusion of Turbo Javelin and Tug of War. Wow!

Rotary Concert- Saturday, 19th April 7pm Our school
choir will be performing at Ivanhoe School along with a
variety of area junior school choirs and the Uttoxeter
Town Band. Tickets are: adult £5 and School Children
£2.50. All proceeds in aid of Rotary Charities.
New Children- We’d like to welcome 12 new pupils into the
MHS Family. We wish them a happy and productive stay.
Drama Club dress rehearsal- There is a dress rehearsal on
Sunday, 20th April, 2-5pm for the full cast. The small
children will only be required 2-3pm. This is an
extremely important rehearsal! If you have any problems,
please ring Alison Hunt on 01332-756557.
“Goldilocks in the City” This is an original pantomime
written by Mrs. A. Hunt, our drama club teacher. It will
be performed on Tuesday, 29th April at 7.30pm in the
school hall by the children of the club. Tickets are £3
for adults, MHS pupils are free. Tickets are available in
the school office or from form teachers.
School Fees – Fees for the Summer Term are now due. A £25
charge will be made for late fees.
Will it ever get warm? Should the weather ever get
better, the children will still be required to enter and
leave school in their school uniforms including blazers
and ties.
Swimming Club- Because of scheduling problems, there will
be no swimming club for the next two Mondays. Swimming
club commences on Monday, 12th of May.
Car Park – This is a one-way system. Please enter via the
large wooden gates from South Street. When leaving, drive
straight through the car park on to the school drive and
turn right away from the school building. The exits are
marked.
