The school’s aim is to identify the special learning needs of individual pupils as quickly as possible.

Pupils with special learning needs are referred to the school’s Learning Support Co-ordinator who will decide if they require additional teaching.

This specialist teaching is delivered by the Learning Support Co-ordinator at regular sessions, usually on a one-to-one or one-to-two basis.

For pupils who do not require these sessions, the Co-ordinator advises teaching colleagues on the appropriate strategies to support their learning in the classroom.

At Manor House School, staff believe that good communication with parents is vital to pupils’ success.

The Learning Support Co-ordinator has regular meetings with the parents and form tutors of pupils who are receiving additional teaching. These meetings are used to discuss areas of concern and strength; the strategies in place and their results; new strategies and ways in which they can be supported at home by parents; and Learning Support targets.

The Learning Support Co-ordinator also gives support to students who have English as an Additional Language (EAL). These students are entitled to additional help for as long as it is needed.
